TIFFIN SAMBAR


Ingredients:
  • Toor dal - 1 cup
  • Shallots - 10 - 13
  • Onion - 1
  • Coriander seeds - 1 tbs
  • Bengal gram - 1tbs
  • Urad dal - 1 tbs
  • Pepper - 1 tbs
  • Cumin - 1/2 tbs
  • Fenugreek - 1/4 tbs
  • Red chillies - 3
  • Mustard seeds - 1 tbs
  • Split urad dal - 1/2 tbs 
  • Turmeric p[owder - 1/4 tbs
  • Tomato - 1 
  • Tamarind - a small piece
  • Curry leaves
  • Coriander leaves
  • Coconut 
  • Jageery - a small piece
  • Oil - 2 tbs
  • Salt
  • Water
Instructions:

  1. Soak toor dal for 10 mins and pressure cook for 2 whistles
  2. Soak tamarind in water 
  3. In a pan dry roast Coriander seeds ,  Bengal gram, Urad dal , Pepper , Cumin , Fenugreek , Red chillies
  4. Grind all the roasted ingredients to a smooth paste
  5. In the same pan add oil , mustard , split urad dal , pepper 
  6. Add in fine chopped onions , shallots , and tomatoes , salt and turmeric and cook well
  7. Add in the ground paste and water . Allow it to boil
  8. Then add in tamarind extract and allow it to boil for 5 mins
  9. Finally add a small piece of jaggery and chopped coriander leaves
  10. Serve 
    SOAK AND COOK TOOR DAL
    SOAK TAMARIND IN WATER
    ROAST ALL THE ITEMS GIVEN ABOVE
    ADD COCONUT
    ADD OIL , MUSTARD , PEPPER , URAD DAL
    ADD FINE CHOPPED ONIONS & CURRY LEAVES
    ADD IN SHALLOTS
    ADD TOMATOES
    ADD SALT , TURMERIC POWDER
    GRIND THE ROASTED ITEMS TO A SMOOTH PASTE
    ADD THE GROUND PASTE
    ALLOW TO BOIL
    ADD COOKED DAL
    ADD TAMARIND EXTRACT
    ADD A PIECE OF JAGGERY



    ADD FINE CHOPPED CORIANDER LEAVES
